Engraving
This project began with my long-held habit of hiding my angular face behind long hair. Questioning why women are expected to embody softness and roundness, I researched historical Korean
symbols of femininity, including the jangot, the plum blossom, and the eunjangdo. Through engraving, printmaking, and textile development, 1 transformed these symbols into layered surfaces that
resemble marks engraved onto the body. The final work combines the silhouette of the jangot with these textile experiments to question how ideals of femininity are imposed and internalised.
